Day 21: Commitment Sunday

Today is Commitment Sunday. We often can’t sense the magnitude of days like this because they pass by in 24 hours like all others, but history for the kingdom of God in our community will be made today and in the days that follow. Pray for us to sense His presence with us today in a powerful way and that all would respond.

Day 20: God's provision

Psalm 50 tells us that the cattle on a thousand hills belong to the Lord. Psalm 24 tells us that the earth is the Lord’s and everything in it. We know that His provision for us is secure, but yet He told us to pray for daily bread (Matthew 6). As we press in toward Commitment Sunday tomorrow, ask the Lord to provide all we need!

Day 19: A Strategy for the nations

Our commission from Jesus is to make disciples of all nations. This is a calling on each one of us, and it is not limited to missionaries and certain Christians. We want our church to have an effective strategy to be fully engaged in this mission. Pray specifically for the right partners around the globe and for us to be bold in our giving and going.

Day 18: Future campuses

As part of our strategy to make disciples in other communities, we’re all praying today about the idea of starting brand new Arrowhead campuses in those towns. These bodies would function like individual churches but we’d all be under one name and mission. The learning curve and the amount of work necessary for this to become a reality is daunting, but we believe the Lord is leading us to explore it. Pray for us all to hear clearly from Him on the subjects of how this is to get done.

Day 17: Freeing our church's finances

*Note: If you’re fasting with us, you should know that day 3 of any fast is often very difficult. This should be expected! Especially if you are abstaining from any food, be prepared for a battle. Be strong! If you do give in, give yourself grace and pick back up where you left off.

As part of the ATWC Stewardship Campaign, all of us are giving for a common goal. This goal is larger than facilities and new churches, new strategies, and even missions. The goal is for the gospel to spread. Currently, our church facility is financed through a loan in the amount of $2.5 million. This monthly mortgage payment is in the neighborhood of $15,000/month. This money is well spent on a place where so many worship and grow, and while this amount isn’t crippling to our church family at all, having that burden removed would free us much more for rapid kingdom expansion. Pray the Lord would free up more and more finances for mission into other parts of our community and world!

Day 16: Wisdom necessary

Our church is not interested in our own agenda. We need God’s wisdom. As we focus in by fasting this week, would you pray specifically for God’s plan to be revealed? As you’ve seen and heard by now, we have aggressive plans for the future. All of that is on the table for the Lord to use as He wills. Ask Him to make His plan clear.

Day 15: Beginning my fast

As we begin our church-wide fast today, let’s open our eyes to what has satisfied us.

Read from John 4 again:

[31] Meanwhile the disciples were urging him, saying, “Rabbi, eat.” [32] But he said to them, “I have food to eat that you do not know about.” [33] So the disciples said to one another, “Has anyone brought him something to eat?” [34] Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to accomplish his work. (John 4:31-34 ESV)

Jesus here illustrates that all hunger comes from the same place and that all satisfaction fills the same space. If we’re not hungry for God, His Word, His church, or if we’re not motivated to make disciples, it’s often because our lives are filled with other things.

Ask Him to reveal what those things are today and to fill you with His Spirit this week.

Day 14: Fasting through my part to play

In our worship service today, we will discuss the idea of fasting. We’re setting out on 7 days of desperation for God. Some of us will fast from food or certain foods. All of us will fast from some form of entertainment to leave time and space to seek God. Be specific and ask the Lord what you can or should fast from this week. This is not a calling on any particular part of our church, but on all of us. Your prayers matter, and your need for God is as important as anyone else’s. Ask Him to create hunger in you this week.

See these resources for more information on fasting.

Day 13: Clear mission

Help us keep our mission in clear focus - making, maturing, multiplying disciples - that we would lead the way in doing it, not just talking about it. (2 Timothy 2:2, 1 Corinthians 11:1, Titus 2). In our age of distraction, it is so easy for life and mission to be thrown off course. Jesus has left us on earth to make disciples. Ask Him to use your home, workplace, or classroom as a place of intentional mission.

Day 12: The next generation

Pray that in our church kids and students would meet Christ and that parents would embrace their calling to disciple them to maturity in Christ. (Deuteronomy 6, Psalm 145:4, Psalm 78)

Ask the Lord to show us as parents our calling and equipping to make disciples in our home. Pray for vision to see our kids as part of a generation that will change the world because of their passionate love for Him and the disciple-making mission of God.

Pray for our ArrowheadKids staff - Brett Moore and Cathi Armstrong. Pray also for the over 100 volunteers in our church who faithfully love and teach kids each week.

Pray for our student ministry - Fuse. Ask God to bring about Acts 4:31 in their lives and in their ministry. Revival has historically begun in the lives of teenagers, and we believe He can do it again.

Day 11: Gospel intentionality

Pray today that we would live lives on mission to take the gospel to those around us with boldness. Ask the Lord for specific people who don’t know Christ. (Acts 4:29-31, Acts 4:19) Cause us to stop playing games with the idea of evangelism and to be compelled to speak up to people who don’t know the love of Jesus.

Day 10: Holiness

Give us a deepening brokenness over sin that drives us to a place of repentance. (Romans 2:4, 2 Corinthians 7:10, Acts 3:19-20) Increase our view of Your holiness and cause us to see sin as it really is. We believe revival begins in the church, and it only happens when we are willing to set aside sin and walk in freedom.

Day 9: Gospel friendship

Make us refuse to settle for outward conformity and drive us to a deeper work of gospel friendship by walking in the light and genuinely loving one another and our community.  (Matthew 23:25-26, 2 Corinthians 5:17) Make our home groups authentic. Use all of us to make disciples. Help us love one another like Jesus loves us.

Pray for staff members who work closely with home groups (Lisa Biery, Jamison Price, Brett Moore) and pray for your home group leader.

Day 8: Passion for God and his Word

This week we’ll highlight prayers that our staff and elders pray for our church on a regular basis. These are our heartbeat for our ministries and for the people of Arrowhead. Join with us in praying these specific prayers.

Lord, make us people of passionate love for You and Your Word by sensing Your anointing on the teaching of it and our consistent study of it. (2 Timothy 2:15, 2 Timothy 3:16, Jeremiah 20:9). Anoint the teaching and preaching of Your Word and help us be people who read the Bible and see Jesus in it.

Pray for staff members who regularly teach: Ben Shoun, Brett Moore, Brent Allen, Jamison Price.

Pray over our elders whose role is to guard the teaching of the church: Ben Shoun, Joe Hamlet, David McNabney, David Gurley, Jim Belcher, Scott McMinn, and Louis Hyde.

Day 7: My part to play

Whether you read this post before or after today’s worship service doesn’t really matter, but the content of today’s message was a challenge to consider where our hearts lie. All of us are called to sacrifice in order for Arrowhead to reach almost the whole city. Make sure you take time to think deeply about today’s message. If you read this before church, carve out 15 minutes to pray after church. If it’s already after church, set aside this time to consider this question: What is He leading me/us to give financially to make this mission possible? Consider from Matthew 6 and 2 Corinthians 8-9 whether you are giving faithfully as the Lord would lead.

Day 6: Gospel celebration

Our worship gathering tomorrow will be fun. It won’t be flippant, as if the things we discuss don’t really matter. But, it will be fun - because the gospel is good news. Today is Saturday, so ask Him to give you a heart that is ready to celebrate with family or friends today and that is hungry to do so tomorrow at church.

Day 5: Big fires begin with small sparks

No one is unimportant. You are incredibly important to this vision we are praying for as a church.

Ask the Lord today to spark a flame in you. The Bible is full of imagery about a fire, and it often represents the presence of God. God’s presence spreads powerfully through a people as it spreads one person at a time.

Is your heart cold? It’s day 5 of 21, ask Him to create a burning in you for His glory.

Day 4: Make us a movement

No one loves institutions. We may love a particular university or a particular business, but it isn’t because they’re an institution. We were made to be a part of a movement, and the body of Christ is a movement. Ask the Holy Spirit today to make you aware of the awe you were created for. As you read the passage from the Book of Acts below, imagine what it must have been like to be a part of the early church, and ask Him to renew that work in us. Ask Him how what He’s burdened you to pray for specifically on day 1 relates to the larger body of Christ called Arrowhead Church or the Church as a whole.

Day 3: Slow down and pray

Sunday’s sermon from Matthew 6 showed us that prayer is best when it is plain, private, and personal. Jesus taught His disciples that although prayer isn’t easy in this busy world, it can be fairly simple. The real question is usually - will we slow down long enough to actually do it? Ask the Lord to quiet your mind and heart for a period of time today and then speak to Him about whatever comes to mind. Listen as He promises to speak to you.

Day 2: Establish me in your Word

One of our core convictions as a church is that God speaks through His Word. In these 21 days, one of our primary concerns should be to establish or reestablish a regular pattern of hearing from Him in those pages.

If you were at Almost Every Man or Almost Every Woman last Tuesday, you got an outline on how to get started in regular time in His Word. If you weren’t there, those notes are here.

Each day of the 21 will include a reading from the Book of Acts. Make sure you use these readings to establish a routine today that will continue for at least these 21 days to allow time to read these chapters in the Bible.

Today, ask Him to deepen your hunger for His Word. Take what He’s spoken to you as you read and find a way to continue to think upon it as you go through your day.
