Portland, Oregon. It’s a growing, thriving city. Full of cultures and communities from all around the world. It’s a beautiful and exciting city, full of life and energy. The culture has become one that holds in high regard the tolerance and acceptance of all lifestyles and beliefs. While that’s true, Portland is one of the least religious cities in the country as well as one of the most de- churched cities. There is currently 1 SBC Church for every 28,000+ residents.
Beneath the surface the city is dark. Portland is the most unhappy city in the U.S. Mental State America says Oregon state had the highest prevalence of Mental Illness in 2017. This reveals what scripture has taught us for centuries; the deepest need for every heart is the peace that comes from the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Portland is the influence capital of the Northwest. Ideas fostered here are spread across the country.
Our team will be partnering with a project called the Portland Jesus Project. This mission of this project is to conduct spiritual surveys with Portlanders. Each team member will have over 30 one-on-one Gospel conversations. We offer a gift card for a free ice cream or cupcake in exchange for a 5 minute survey. The spiritual survey begins by asking questions about the outward person (demographic data), then move to the inward person (passions and beliefs), and finals asks about the vertical person (Jesus, God, eternity).
This summer, our belief is that in the span of one week, our team can make a massive impact in Portland.
Lodging and Travel will cost $850.
An additional $300-$400 should be raised for dining.

+ What will we eat?
Since we're staying in a hotel, we won't have the opportunity to make food, so most of our meals will be eating out. Portland has tons of unique options for food (really good food). We'll make sure to accommodate any food allergies or intolerances that you have.
+ What if I don't feel prepared for this kind of trip?
We get it. Sharing the gospel with strangers seems scary, and it can feel like you aren't "prepared enough". You might also that there would be others who are better and more qualified. But, we believe that it is the Holy Spirit in us, not our ability that qualifies us to share about Jesus. We'll do some training and preparation beforehand so you feel ready, but our greatest encouragement is to realize that Jesus saved you and called you to be His disciple and that's all the power you need to serve well on this trip.
+ Where are we staying?
+ Is there any downtime?
Yes! We'll set time aside throughout the week for you to explore the city and experience some unique things that Portland offers. We'll most likely take a trip to the Coast and maybe even take a quick hike up Multonmah Falls so you can soak in some iconic Pacific Northwest scenery.
