The Daily5 is a simple guide for daily time with God. Five activities for five minutes each. Start with the short devotional below, then pick four more activities from the listed options. It's ok if you can only do three or four activities! Commit each day to complete at least one of the five.

Ephesians 5:1-14

Therefore, be imitators of God, as dearly loved children, 2 and walk in love, as Christ also loved us and gave himself for us, a sacrificial and fragrant offering to God. 3 But sexual immorality and any impurity or greed should not even be heard of among you, as is proper for saints. 4 Obscene and foolish talking or crude joking are not suitable, but rather giving thanks. 5 For know and recognize this: Every sexually immoral or impure or greedy person, who is an idolater, does not have an inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.

6 Let no one deceive you with empty arguments, for God’s wrath is coming on the disobedient because of these things. 7 Therefore, do not become their partners. 8 For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light— 9 for the fruit of the light consists of all goodness, righteousness, and truth— 10 testing what is pleasing to the Lord. 11 Don’t participate in the fruitless works of darkness, but instead expose them. 12 For it is shameful even to mention what is done by them in secret. 13 Everything exposed by the light is made visible, 14 for what makes everything visible is light. Therefore it is said:

Get up, sleeper, and rise up from the dead,

and Christ will shine on you.

A young boy wants to be like his father. In the same way, believers want to be like God. So when Paul encourages people to be imitators, he is telling them to love like God loves (sacrificially). What that means: love people the way they want to be loved. That is how we walk in love. Paul also encourages believers to walk in purity. His reasoning is that purity is the character of God’s kingdom. Paul also mentions God’s wrath, but most importantly, if you are a believer, you are light. Therefore, walk in the light, produce the fruit of light, know the will of God (read, pray, disciple, receive knowledge), and do not conform to deeds of darkness. Seek holiness!

Lord, help me be an imitator of you. May I love the way you love me. May I stay pure and be a light shining in darkness. May I know your will through being disciplined in studying your word. May I flee from darkness. Help me seek holiness. In Jesus Name I pray. Amen.

Be imitators of the Father. That is what we are called to do. Seek purity. Think of your life. In what areas are you not imitating God? What areas are you impure? What are steps you need to take in order to not only be a light, but to be a light that is producing fruit? Stop delaying your pursuit of holiness. Do that today.
