The Daily5 is a simple guide for daily time with God. Five activities for five minutes each. Start with the short devotional below, then pick four more activities from the listed options. It's ok if you can only do three or four activities! Commit each day to complete at least one of the five.

Ephesians 6:1-9

Children, obey your parents in the Lord, because this is right. 2 Honor your father and mother, which is the first commandment with a promise, 3 so that it may go well with you and that you may have a long life in the land. 4 Fathers, don’t stir up anger in your children, but bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.

5 Slaves, obey your human masters with fear and trembling, in the sincerity of your heart, as you would Christ. 6 Don’t work only while being watched, as people-pleasers, but as slaves of Christ, do God’s will from your heart. 7 Serve with a good attitude, as to the Lord and not to people, 8 knowing that whatever good each one does, slave or free, he will receive this back from the Lord. 9 And masters, treat your slaves the same way, without threatening them, because you know that both their Master and yours is in heaven, and there is no favoritism with him.

Summary:

Not only does the Spirit impact our relationship with our spouses, but it impacts our relationship with our children and those who look to us as an authority figure. Yes, the days will increase for children who obey. We can laugh about that. But do not miss that it is the role of the father to not provoke, but to bring them up in the instruction of the Lord! The same goes for working. Do goodwill to others. Know that everyone has the same master in heaven, God the Father.

Prayer:

Lord, thank you for my children (if you have children). May I lead them and raise them in the instruction of your will. May I do good will toward others today. Remind me of the unity I have with the believers around me. In Jesus Name I pray. Amen.

Reflection:

If you have children, are you raising them in the instruction of the Lord? Are you showing them Jesus in everything you do? Make that a priority today. While at work, are you doing good toward others (boss and employees)? Love them. Serve them as servants of Christ.
