The Daily5 is a simple guide for daily time with God. Five activities for five minutes each. Start with the short devotional below, then pick four more activities from the listed options. It's ok if you can only do three or four activities! Commit each day to complete at least one of the five.

1 John 2:1-6

My little children, I am writing you these things so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ the righteous one. 2 He himself is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours, but also for those of the whole world.

3 This is how we know that we know him: if we keep his commands. 4 The one who says, “I have come to know him,” and yet doesn’t keep his commands, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. 5 But whoever keeps his word, truly in him the love of God is made complete. This is how we know we are in him: 6 The one who says he remains in him should walk just as he walked.

John wants to help us not sin, but he knows we will. So, he tells us we have an Advocate - Jesus Christ the righteous. We’re not righteous, but He is and He makes us righteous! Your righteousness is not based on performance and you don’t have to feel anxious today wondering if you’ve done enough. Ask Him for faith to believe this truth today. In light of yesterday’s tough truth about justifying our sin, thank Him for advocating for you by dying in your place and ask Him to help you remember this today. Take time to record this prayer by writing it out by hand either here on in a notebook. Try to “take some notes” and put the prayer in your own words.
