The Daily5 is a simple guide for daily time with God. Five activities for five minutes each. Start with the short devotional below, then pick four more activities from the listed options. It's ok if you can only do three or four activities! Commit each day to complete at least one of the five.

1 John 2:15-17

15 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride in one’s possessions—is not from the Father, but is from the world. 17 And the world with its lust is passing away, but the one who does the will of God remains forever.

Summary:

John’s instruction about “the world” here has to do with sinful clinging to earthly things instead of holding on to truth. Too often we hold on to what we know isn’t from God. It may be the things we think about, the way we treat people, greed, or any particular sin. All of us battle against this, but we “love the world” when we stop battling and simply give in.

Prayer:

Father, I want to love You more than I love what this world has to offer. Give me courage to fight.

Reflection:

How do you love the world? Are you battling lust, anger, greed, or pride? Be specific.
