1 Thessalonians 3:6-10
6 But now Timothy has come to us from you and brought us good news about your faith and love. He reported that you always have good memories of us and that you long to see us, as we also long to see you. 7 Therefore, brothers and sisters, in all our distress and affliction, we were encouraged about you through your faith. 8 For now we live, if you stand firm in the Lord. 9 How can we thank God for you in return for all the joy we experience before our God because of you, 10 as we pray very earnestly night and day to see you face to face and to complete what is lacking in your faith?
Once Paul hears a good report from Timothy about how firm the Thessalonians’ faith is despite opposition, there is a deep encouragement. As a pastor, he said he really lives (verse 8) because they are standing firm. What a great way to say that he knows what matters most is not the circumstances of their lives but the strength of their faith. He has seen God work a deep faith into their lives.
Father, whose life is it that You would want to use me in today? Show me someone who is in need that I could strengthen by encouragement.
If there is a kind of living that is so full of joy that comes only when seeing the genuine faith of someone you have been used by God in building, am I really living? Who do I need to begin to challenge today with truth in order for them to really dig deeper in their faith?
