Overview of 1 Samuel
The Old Testament book of 1 Samuel is full of stories of God’s power in establishing His people Israel. We see them ask for and receive a king like the nations around them for the very first time. This first king is Saul, and he quickly fails. The Lord has a plan to raise up King David, who will point to the one true King of God’s people, Jesus. This book is full of interaction between these men and full of powerful truth concerning how the Lord accomplishes His purposes for His people in the world.
We will read it one chapter per day, which means we will spend less time reading summaries, simply due to the time commitment. We will apply a consistent set of reflection questions geared to allow openness in how the Lord might speak to you as you encounter His Word. You will love this book of the Bible! It speaks loud and clear. After today, you will be jumping into this story in the middle, so remember the themes and purposes of God that He is revealing in this account.
